A Chipboard Lesson

Here's a tutorial on how to apply pattern paper to chipboard!

Gather your tools.

1.  Chipboard

2.  Adhesive

Scotch glue stick for projects going in scrapbooks

Scotch quick dry adhesive for chipboard books

3.  Brayer

4.  Big Brother and Lil Sis Sanding sticks

5.  Precision files

6.  Pencil

7.  Wet Wipes

8.  Scissors

Getting Started...

1.  Choose your chipboard and paper

2.  If you are doing a book, take the book apart.  Choose which papers will cover which pages.

3.  Trace the letter shape onto paper with your pencil, and cut the shape out with scissors.

4.  Cover the shape with adhesive.  For projects going into scrapbooks use the Scotch Glue Stick.  For projects like books that will be handled a great deal use Scotch Tacky Adhesive.

5.  Place the paper onto the chipboard and use the brayer to smooth out all the glue lines, and move the adhesive all the way to the edge.  If you get bubbles or glue lines in your chipboard projects it somes from one of two things..you are using the wrong adhesive or you are not using a brayer.

I like to keep a wet wipe handy when doing these projects.  I can use it to wipe up any excess glue, and keep my brayer clean.

If you look at the back of the chipboard you'll see a white edge...that is where the paper is too long.  To clean up my edges and give my book a perfect look I use our sanding sticks and precsion files to finish.

6.  Use the small stick (Lil Sis) for tight places and the big stick (Big Bro) for larger areas that you have alot of ground to cover.  Place your project on the edge of your work surface and pull down with the sanding stick, until the paper is gone and you have a clean edge. We recommend precision files to get into corners and tight spots!  We're often asked about the tools...and honestly these tools give you the ability to get beautiful edges every time!

7.  Now here is the same photo on the back...showing NO white paper hanging over the edges.

If you have white shredded paper on the edges of your chipboard...you simply have not sanded enough.  Sand More.  If your chipboard is starting to bend from the pressure of your sanding move your work closer to the table edge so you can sand without bending your chipboard.

8.  Before moving on to cover the other side be sure to punch holes in your book so you can adhere snap rings later! We recommend the Crop A Dile for punching holes in chipboard.

9.  Continue finishing pages as shown.  Once you have your pages covered, you can begin accenting your book with photos, and embellishments.
